Robotic Perforating Cutaneous Nerve Decompression
Beyond unexplained buttock pain — a hidden nerve source.
What is it? The perforating cutaneous nerve (S2–S3) passes through or around the sacrotuberous ligament to supply the lower buttock. Small and deep, it is rarely evaluated in standard workups — yet it can be a real pain generator.
Symptoms – Localized lower-buttock pain • burning, sharp, or aching discomfort – Pain with sitting • focal tenderness near the inferior gluteal fold – Overlap with sciatic or PFCN symptoms
How ESSI treats it — Robotic intrapelvic access to the nerve’s origin in the sacral plexus and greater sciatic region: identification of the exact origin and course, detection of fibrosis, adhesions, or inflammatory nodules, and targeted neurolysis with minimal disruption — plus evaluation of the neighboring PFCN, sciatic, pudendal, and gluteal nerves.
