Our team at Endometriosis Surgical Specialists International (ESSI) is incredibly proud to be spearheading these vital conversations alongside some of the brightest minds and fiercest advocates in the field.
From the surgical boardroom to the anatomy lab, here are the highlights from a highly successful first day.
The Surgical Board Room: Collaboration in Action
At ESSI, we firmly believe that complex pelvic disease requires a group-based, multidisciplinary approach. This philosophy was perfectly captured in the Surgical Board Room sessions.
We want to extend a massive thank you to our own Dr. Mallory Stuparich and Dr. Raccuia for leading phenomenal, high-level clinical discussions. By bringing diverse surgical perspectives to the table, we continue to refine the techniques required to safely and effectively eradicate severe disease.
Anatomical Mastery & Uterine-Sparing Innovation
Understanding the deep, complex anatomy of the pelvis is the foundational requirement for nerve-sparing excision. Yesterday, Dr. Andrea Vidali had the distinct honor of co-leading a highly detailed anatomy lab alongside Dr. Moawad, sharing decades of surgical expertise with the next generation of specialists.
Furthermore, Dr. Vidali provided a live demonstration of the HS Amica Microwave Ablation procedure. As a pioneer in uterine-sparing treatments, demonstrating this revolutionary, minimally invasive technique for adenomyosis highlights our commitment to offering patients an alternative to the standard hysterectomy, preserving both their anatomy and their path to pregnancy.
Navigating Severe Disease: Bowel Endometriosis Recovery
True endometriosis care does not end when the patient leaves the operating room; it continues through their recovery.
Dr. Madhu Bagaria delivered an incredibly insightful and vital lecture on the recovery process following Bowel Endometriosis Surgery. Because Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis (DIE) of the bowel requires complex, multidisciplinary excision, guiding patients through their gastrointestinal healing and postoperative expectations is just as critical as the surgery itself.
Fertility and the Bigger Picture
Beyond the surgical innovations, Day 1 was filled with crucial conversations surrounding fertility preservation and the immunologic impact of the disease. The ESSI team members who presented throughout the day did an absolutely amazing job bridging the gap between surgical excellence and reproductive medicine.
