Community, Collaboration, and Cutting-Edge Science: Day 2 of The Endometriosis Summit
If Day 1 of the summit was about setting the stage for surgical innovation, Day 2 was all about community and the holistic future of patient care.
Treating endometriosis at the highest level requires more than just time in the operating room. It requires treating the whole patient, addressing systemic inflammation, and building an infrastructure of support. Yesterday, the Endometriosis Surgical Specialists International (ESSI) team was thrilled to be at the absolute forefront of these vital conversations.
From groundbreaking medical discussions to unforgettable community celebrations, here is a look at why Day 2 was an overwhelming success.
The Future is Group-Based: The Power of MDTs
One of the most significant and passionate discussions of the day centered around the use of Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT).
For too long, the burden of treating this complex, whole-body disease was placed on the shoulders of single, independent practitioners. The conversations on Day 2 reinforced exactly what we have built the ESSI model upon: you cannot effectively treat a multi-system disease without a multi-system team.
When endometriosis infiltrates the bowel, the bladder, and the pelvic nerves, the gold standard of care demands a collaborative brain trust. Having expert excision specialists, colorectal surgeons, urologists, and reproductive immunologists working together seamlessly is no longer a luxury—it is the necessary future of endometriosis care. We are incredibly proud to see the wider medical community embracing the group-based model that ESSI is actively spearheading.
The GLP-1 Conversation: Inflammation and Beyond
Medicine is constantly evolving, and one of the most fascinating topics covered yesterday was the intersection of endometriosis and GLP-1 receptor agonists.
While these medications are widely known for their metabolic and weight-management applications, the conversations at the summit dove into their profound systemic, anti-inflammatory properties. Because endometriosis is fundamentally an inflammatory and immunologic disease, exploring how modern metabolic medications might help down-regulate systemic inflammation, manage co-existing conditions like PCOS, and improve overall patient quality of life is a thrilling new frontier.
The ESSI team is always evaluating the latest pharmacological tools to support our patients both before and after their excision surgeries, and the insights shared on this topic were phenomenal.
Celebrating the Community: Bingo and the Summit Party!
Endometriosis is a heavy, taxing disease, and the fight for better care is exhausting. That is why taking the time to celebrate the advocates, the patients, and the providers is so incredibly important.
Day 2 proved that this community knows how to show up for each other. The Summit Bingo event was an absolute blast, bringing an amazing surge of energy to the day. And of course, the evening party was the perfect way to unwind, connect on a human level, and celebrate the immense progress we are all making together.
Looking Forward
Day 2 was a massive success, perfectly balancing the hard science of MDTs and emerging medicines with the joy and resilience of the endometriosis community. The ESSI team is incredibly grateful for the conversations we had, the colleagues we collaborated with, and the patients we had the honor of meeting.
We are energized and ready for what the rest of the summit has in store!
